My son had an accident at school today which resulted in his tooth being chipped and him being distressed and sore. So happy with the service we received from Sisam Dental from start to finish. The team were able to squeeze us in for an appt and Scott was awesome, grateful he was able to sort the issue out for us so promptly. Highly recommend!

What should I do if I knock out a tooth?

Gently rinse the tooth (do not scrub), try to place it back in the socket if possible, or store it in milk or saliva — and call us immediately. Timing is critical to save the tooth.

What should I do in a dental emergency?

Please call the clinic as soon as possible to discuss your situation. We’ll do our best to see you promptly and help with urgent dental issues.

Will emergency treatment fix the issue completely?

Our first priority is to relieve your pain and stabilize the problem. In some cases, follow-up treatment (like a root canal or crown) may be scheduled afterward.

What if I can’t afford emergency dental care right now?

We understand that emergency dental treatment can be unexpected and stressful — especially when finances are a concern. At Sisam Dental in Whakatāne, we’re committed to helping you access the urgent care you need.

To ease the financial pressure, we offer Afterpay, and some emergency dental treatments may be covered under ACC if your injury is accident-related. We’re also happy to work with you to create an affordable, step-by-step treatment plan, prioritising immediate pain relief and essential care first.

In some cases, Work and Income New Zealand (WINZ) may provide up to $1,000 in financial assistance for urgent or emergency dental treatment. Our team can help guide you on what information you may need to apply, so you can focus on getting the care you need without unnecessary delay.

Does ACC Cover Dental Injuries?

Yes — ACC may help cover some of the cost of dental treatment if your injury is the result of an accident.

Whether it’s a sports injury, a fall, or another type of impact, if your teeth or jaw were damaged due to an accidental event, ACC might contribute to part or all of your treatment costs

How it works:
• You’ll need to visit a dentist or doctor who can assess the injury and submit a claim to ACC on your behalf.
• If approved, ACC will cover a portion of the treatment, and we’ll explain any remaining balance or co-payment.
• We’ll help handle the paperwork and guide you through the process.

ACC may help with:
• Broken or knocked-out teeth
• Jaw injuries
• Dental trauma from sports, falls, or accidents
• Lost fillings or crowns due to impact

If you’ve had an accident involving your teeth or jaw, contact us as soon as possible. Early treatment helps — and we’re here to support you through your ACC claim.
