Dysport Treatment in Dentistry

Enhance your smile and comfort with Dysport

Dysport is a popular, non-surgical treatment that can help address both cosmetic concerns and dental-related issues. As a botulinum toxin injection, Dysport is most commonly used to smooth out wrinkles and fine lines but can also play a key role in dental treatments to improve your smile, comfort, and function.

How Dysport Can Help in Dentistry

  • Smile Enhancement: Dysport can be used to relax muscles around the mouth, lifting the corners of your smile and reducing the appearance of gummy smiles (excessive gum showing when you smile).

  • Bruxism (Teeth Grinding): If you grind your teeth or clench your jaw, Dysport can help relax the muscles involved, reducing strain, jaw discomfort, and even helping protect your teeth from damage.

  • TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint Disorder): Dysport is an effective treatment for TMJ-related pain, helping to reduce muscle tension and alleviate discomfort in the jaw and facial muscles.

  • Facial Rejuvenation: Dysport can be used in conjunction with other treatments to smooth wrinkles, creating a balanced, youthful look.

What to expect

  • The treatment involves a few small injections, typically in the areas of the forehead, jaw, or around the mouth.

  • Some mild redness or swelling may occur at the injection sites, but it should subside within a few hours.

  • Results can often be seen within a few days, with full results after 7-14 days and can last up to 3–4 months.

  • Touch-ups: If needed, a follow-up visit can be scheduled to adjust treatment.

  • The procedure is quick, minimally invasive, and requires no downtime—making it an easy addition to your routine dental care.

Dysport is a versatile treatment that can enhance not only your smile but also your comfort and confidence.

Dysport aftercare

After your Dysport treatment, following proper aftercare will help maximise your results and minimize any potential side effects. The process is quick, but taking care of yourself after treatment is key to achieving the smooth, refreshed look you desire.

Immediate Aftercare:

 What to do:

  • Stay upright for at least 4 hours after your treatment.

  • Gently move your facial muscles (e.g., smiling, frowning) in the treated areas to help the product distribute evenly.

  • Apply a cold pack if you experience mild swelling or bruising (but do not apply pressure).

  • Use a gentle cleanser and lukewarm water when washing your face.

What to Avoid (First 24–48 Hours)

  • No rubbing or massaging the treated area

  • Avoid makeup on the treated area for at least 4 hours

  • No vigorous exercise for 24 hours

  • Avoid lying down flat or bending over for long periods for 4–6 hours

  • No facials, peels, or skin treatments for at least 1 week

  • Avoid alcohol as may increase bruising. Let clinician know if you are taking blood-thinning medication as this will increase likelihood of bruising.
